1.0 Purpose and Scope

This policy and associated procedures apply to all employees, and for the provision of corporate and support services to each delivery location across all functions within all parts of Seetec Group and the Pluss Organisation CIC.

We deliver employability, skills, training, apprenticeships, and rehabilitation programmes that are designed to support participants into sustained employment, education, training, or to support rehabilitation.

With an extensive delivery infrastructure of over 100 centres across the UK and the Republic of Ireland, and our various outreach locations, we support over 100,000 participant per annum addressing and overcoming entrenched issues such as unemployment, skills shortages, reoffending, long-term health conditions and social exclusion.

Services are provided through the delivery of contracts funded by the Department for Work and Pensions, the Education and Skills Funding Agency, the Ministry of Justice, the Department for Employment Affairs and Social Protection (Ireland) and numerous Local Authorities.

This policy applies to all contracted services provided by Seetec Group including European Social Fund Contracts. See Appendices A, B & C

2.0 Employee Ownership

Seetec Group is 51% employed owned.

Employee ownership gives colleagues a meaningful stake in the business and a say about how it is run, encouraging all of us to collaborate, enable and empower each other to be accountable for what we deliver and together feel responsible for the outcomes.

Employee ownership provides colleagues strong involvement in the delivery and oversight of objectives, and assurance that our social values are behind every decision, service, and strategy.

3.0 Policy Statement

We recognise that sound business management must consider the effects of our business on the environment, and we are committed to conducting our business in an environmentally responsible manner.

Our senior management, environmental management team and employees have a responsibility for the environment and sustainability, which we will endeavour to influence, incorporate, and promote within our operations and the services we provide.

We are committed to achieving high standards of sustainable development in all areas of our business, and to comply with all applicable compliance requirements. This includes legislative changes due to the UK leaving the European Union.

We continually seek to ensure that our activities are carried out with minimal impact on the environment, to enhance the environment wherever possible and are committed to the prevention of pollution.

We encourage partnership with commissioners and stakeholders, including the community, our network of supply chain partners, suppliers, customers, and employees to be accountable for the impact of their actions upon the environment, and by setting annual targets, to strive for continual improvement.

Our aim is to develop, maintain, monitor, and implement policies, procedures and management systems which assess and minimise the environmental impact of our operations, particularly in relation to:

  • Sustainable Procurement of Goods & Services
  • Consumption of Materials & Resources
  • Efficient Energy Management
  • Following Best Practice in Waste Management
  • Control of Discharges & Emissions
  • Commitment to Carbon Reduction

Progress in meeting our sustainable development objectives will be communicated regularly in Management Meetings, the Employee Council, and cascaded to employees via various online systems, including My Seetec, E-mails, MS Teams, and the new SF Training Platform. Information is also shared externally to promote and influence our Supply chain partners.

4.0 Sustainable Development Management

Our daily business encompasses a wide range of processes from the sourcing of products and services to the delivery of internal and external services.

The three principal elements most likely to impact on the environment are:

  • The consumption of fossil fuels is a consequence of all business activities, including the heating and lighting of premises, as well as fuel used for transportation.
  • The use of resource materials, whether for the products we purchase and distribute internally or the use of maintenance and cleaning materials within our offices.
  • Waste management including waste arising from materials used within Seetec, such as office waste and disposal of end-of-life products and waste generated by our clients on placements and work experience projects.

5.0 Environmental Management System (EMS)

The EMS Team is responsible for driving forward our environmental objectives and targets. The team consists of senior managers and key members of staff around the organisation that have either a major influence over business activities or fulfil a function that supports the EMS.

The overall objective is to improve and sustain our business operations for the benefit of all, both now and for future generations, recognising the links between the environment and the local communities we serve, for employability and skills services and the further development of an inclusive society.
