Ten Year 11 pupils recently got a unique look inside the fast-paced world of freight forwarding. This was thanks to Avocet Clearance, one of our dedicated employer partners and strong advocates of the International Freight Forwarding Apprenticeship.
From 10am to 1pm, pupils were welcomed into Avocet’s bright and bustling office. There, they were introduced to the people, skills, and opportunities that make freight such a rewarding industry.
The visit included:
- Presentations by apprentices – past and present learners shared their own journeys. They highlighted how the IFF Apprenticeship supported their growth and career progression.
- Hands-on experience – students attempted real customs entries, gaining insight into the detail and responsibility involved in day-to-day roles.
- A ‘day in the life’ taste of the workplace – with lunch provided and plenty of time for questions, pupils experienced the culture of a young, diverse, and dynamic office. In this workplace, learning and development are at the heart.
Avocet’s team emphasised how apprenticeships can be a launchpad to a career in freight. They offer both practical skills and a clear pathway to further opportunities in the sector.
The event reinforced the value of employers and apprentices working together to inspire the next generation. By opening their doors, Avocet showcased not only the career opportunities available but also the supportive environment that apprenticeships can create.
The pupils had a great session at Avocet. They really enjoyed listening to the variety of talks from the different employees especially hearing about the route that everyone went on to become an employee of Avocet. The interactive task of custom entries was challenging but enjoyable and they were able to see first hand what is done on a daily basis and the importance of accuracy. We were made to feel incredibly welcome – everyone was so lovely and helpful. The food was an added bonus!
