At Pluss, we’re proud to share success stories that show what’s possible when the right support meets real determination. Anna’s journey is one of resilience, collaboration, and finding the right fit—and it has led to an exciting volunteering opportunity with Hearts Together.
Anna has been supported by our Supported Employment service in Devon since November 2024. During this time, we explored several placements together. While those early opportunities didn’t quite work out, each experience helped us learn more about what Anna enjoys and where her strengths lie.
Having previously worked in a care home, Anna was keen to move into a health and social care–related role. As we got to know her better, Anna shared that she enjoys cleaning—opening up a conversation about housekeeping and similar opportunities where her skills and interests could shine.
Tailored support that makes a difference
Working closely with Anna, we created small, achievable action plans and designed prompt cards as an alternative to traditional training methods that weren’t working for her. We reviewed her progress regularly in the workplace and gathered feedback from employers to help build on her strengths and develop her skills with confidence.
To further prepare Anna, we supported her to complete an online dementia course through the Digital Course, followed by an employability skills course sourced via On Call South West. We also guided her through the process of completing her DBS—another important step on her journey.
The perfect match
When Anna spotted a volunteering advert with Hearts Together, we knew it was worth exploring. The training and experience she’d gained aligned perfectly with the opportunity—and the match couldn’t have been better.

Anna’s story shows the power of personalised support, patience, and partnership. We’re incredibly proud of what she has achieved and excited to see her grow in this new role. Her advice to anyone thinking of volunteering? “I would say have a go at it as you will gain valuable experience and skills to help gain employment.”
