Francis Finds His Purpose with Seetec Restart

When Francis was referred to the Seetec Restart Programme by Weymouth Jobcentre, he brought an energy and positivity that quickly made him a joy to work with—and an inspiration to others on the programme. His story shows that with determination, the right support, and a positive mindset, it’s never too late to start a new chapter.

A Fresh Start in Portland

Francis had recently moved to Portland from Reading, hoping to make a fresh start. However, finding work locally proved challenging. Despite applying for multiple roles and attending countless workshops to improve his confidence and interview skills, he faced several rejections.

“I knew I had the experience and the skills,” Francis recalls, “but it felt like doors were constantly closing.”

Even in the face of setbacks, Francis’ determination never wavered. His commitment to turning things around impressed everyone at the Seetec Restart Programme.

Tailored Support to Overcome Barriers

Francis’ Employment Adviser quickly recognised his potential and worked closely with him to address the challenges holding him back. One key hurdle was the difficulty of travelling from Portland to attend appointments and interviews. By arranging flexible support and targeted opportunities, the team ensured Francis could stay on track.

Through Seetec’s network of employer partners, Francis was introduced to B&M, where guaranteed interviews were offered for temporary Christmas roles. This gave him the chance to showcase his skills and dedication in a real work environment.

Making the Most of Every Opportunity

Francis grabbed the opportunity with both hands. He started part-time during the festive period, demonstrating a strong work ethic from day one. Even while working, he continued attending Job Club sessions to develop his skills further and explore long-term opportunities.

His commitment didn’t go unnoticed. Francis received regular praise from his management team and was awarded a certificate of recognition after successfully handling an ID challenge set by local authorities.

“I’ve learned that perseverance pays off,” Francis says. “Even small steps forward make a difference.

Securing a Permanent Role

In early 2026, Francis received fantastic news: he would be staying on permanently with B&M. His words to his manager captured what this achievement meant to him:

“She has given an old man his purpose back.”

For Francis, the role isn’t just about work—it’s about structure, achievement, and personal fulfillment.

“It’s given me back my purpose in life. For three days a week, I achieve something.

Francis’ journey is a powerful reminder that with the right support, positivity, and determination, anyone can overcome barriers and find meaningful work.
