Can you introduce yourself, outline your role at Metro Shipping, and tell us what inspired you to choose an apprenticeship?
“Hi, my name is Warwick, and I am currently working in the Airfreight department at Metro. The reason why I chose an apprenticeship was due to the real work experience that it gives you, whilst also earning a qualification. As I have previously been to college, I felt that the work experience side was not planned out correctly and was not relevant to the course that I was studying. With an apprenticeship, you gain experience of doing the job whilst also learning the KSBs (knowledge, skills and behaviours) that are needed for your role. It also opens the opportunity to learn from both sides of the apprenticeship.“
“As a driven individual, I feel like I already had the motivation installed in me to achieve this qualification. However, when times got hard throughout the apprenticeship, I knew that I had support from my colleagues at Metro and my tutor, Kerrie, at Seetec to motivate me.“ If you’re looking for an opportunity to develop your skills, build confidence in your role, and take the next step in your career, our team can guide you every step of the way. From understanding industry processes to applying knowledge in real-world scenarios, we’re committed to helping learners achieve success and open doors to exciting opportunities.

What personally motivated you to complete the Level 3 International Freight Forwarding Specialist apprenticeship?
Warwick’s tutor, Kerrie, has played a pivotal role in his apprenticeship and shared this about his progress:
“Warwick was a pleasure to teach from day 1, he showed great enthusiasm throughout the apprenticeship and learnt internally at Metro from his colleagues, team leader and managers”
– Kerrie Shepley – IFF Level 3 Tutor

How would you describe your experience working with the Seetec team? What support stood out to you?
“Excellent! My tutor Kerrie was always there to support me throughout the apprenticeship, and if I had any questions or queries, I knew Kerrie would be there to help answer them. What stood out the most was that Kerrie would not be afraid to push me to achieve the best that I could. This is shown by the distinction result that I earned.“ If you’re looking for the support and guidance to achieve your best, our team at Seetec can help every step of the way. From one-to-one mentoring, like Warwick received from Kerrie, to helping apply knowledge in real-world scenarios.
What new skills, knowledge, or confidence have you gained during your apprenticeship?
“Throughout my apprenticeship, I feel like I have gained a vast amount of knowledge and skills, which has helped my performance during my day-to-day job and solidified my understanding of this industry. For example, I have built relevant industry knowledge about the processes that we use in airfreight and the industry. I have also learnt how to be, and why it is important to be, compliant throughout my role. This apprenticeship has also encouraged skills such as attention to detail and time management. This apprenticeship has also boosted my confidence by being able to use the knowledge and skills that I have gained to confidently handle customer enquiries, manage shipments independently, and communicate effectively with partners and customers.“

How has the apprenticeship directly supported your career development or future goals?
“Well, first off, this apprenticeship introduced me into this industry, which I am now passionate about and excited to progress in. It has also supported my growth in the industry by developing my skills, industry knowledge, professional behaviours, and confidence that I feel will help me progress my career within the industry. The qualification has also given me a Level 3 recognised industry standard, which will help open the door to various future development opportunities going forwards.“
“Go for it! As previously mentioned, I have been through the college system before, and after completing this apprenticeship, I personally believe it is the way to go. Being able to use the knowledge, skills, and behaviours learnt from the apprenticeship whilst gaining hands-on experience through my day-to-day job was vital for the development that has led me to where I am now. I honestly believe that it is the best combination and would push anybody who is debating what path to take to try it. It is one of the best decisions I have made.“

What would you say to someone who is considering starting this rewarding apprenticeship journey?
“I would like to thank Kerrie Shepley and my colleagues at Metro for their support and dedication throughout my apprenticeship. I am extremely proud of this accomplishment and excited to continue progressing in my career.”
