After facing the loss of his business following Covid, Tim joined the Restart Scheme determined to rebuild his confidence, skills, and future prospects — discovering along the way that support, resilience, and the right opportunities can make all the difference.
Six months ago, Timothy was referred to the Restart Scheme by Bristol Templestreet Jobcentre after a difficult period that had left him out of work and needing to rebuild both his confidence and direction.
From the beginning of his journey with Seetec, Tim approached the support with determination and a willingness to engage. He recognised the challenges ahead but committed himself to taking practical steps forward. Step by step, he began rebuilding his confidence, skills, and focus for the future.
Tim engaged fully with the Restart scheme, attending in-house workshops with consistency, focus, and enthusiasm. He often took the time to stay behind after sessions to reflect, ask thoughtful questions, and deepen his understanding. Alongside this, he embraced external training and support opportunities, recognising that each session was another building block towards his future goals.
What stands out most about Tim’s progress is not just what he has done, but how consistently he has done it. Even on more difficult days, he continued to show up and put in the work. His progress has been steady, grounded, and meaningful – less about dramatic change, and more about sustained growth over time.
Alongside his own development, Tim has also become a positive presence within the group. His outlook and encouragement towards others have made a noticeable difference in sessions, contributing to a supportive and collaborative learning environment.
Trainer Paula, who has worked closely with Tim since October 2025, shared:
“I first met Tim at our Meet the Trainer Information session and immediately noticed his curiosity and eagerness to learn. Since then, he has attended a wide range of sessions including Self-Awareness, Resilience & Setbacks, Coping with Stress & Anxiety, Interview Skills, Job Search and the Hidden Job Market, Networking Café, and Confidence in the Workplace.
“Seetec has been a lifeline I didn’t know existed.
Tim
Tim is self-aware, consistently positive, and actively contributes to both group and individual discussions. He listens carefully, shares relevant experiences, and adds real value to every session. He should be incredibly proud of the progress he has made.”
Tim has also taken part in 1:1 employability support sessions, where he has openly discussed personal barriers and worked through practical solutions to help him move forward. His willingness to engage honestly with challenges has played a key role in his development.
Reflecting on his experience, Tim shared:
“I re-entered the job market after having to wind up my business following Covid. The idea of having to upskill and work for someone else again felt like a major hurdle. I expected Restart to be another box-ticking exercise, but I’ve been completely proven wrong. The range of support available is so wide – from computer training and wellbeing sessions to confidence building and exploring the hidden job market. There really is something for everyone.
While I’m still job searching, I feel far more confident and skilled than I ever imagined possible. Thanks, Seetec.”
Tim’s journey is a powerful example of what can happen when resilience meets the right support at the right time. He has demonstrated consistency, openness to learning, and a determination to keep moving forward, even when things felt difficult. As we mark Mental Health Awareness Week, his story is a reminder of the importance of support networks, self-belief, and having access to opportunities that help people rebuild confidence and purpose. Tim’s journey is still ongoing, but the progress he has made so far speaks for itself – and there is every reason to be optimistic about what comes next.
Further reflections:
Further reflecting on his experience, Tim spoke about the impact of the mental health and wellbeing workshops delivered by Seetec Trainer Paula. He described the sessions as “transformative”, particularly in helping him build greater self-awareness and develop healthier ways of managing negative thoughts and emotions.
Tim shared that what kept him returning to the workshops was the supportive and non-judgemental environment, where participants were encouraged to listen, share openly, and support one another. He praised Paula’s warm and approachable style, explaining that her honesty and ability to create a calm, welcoming space helped participants feel comfortable enough to engage fully.
For Tim, the sessions became more than workshops; they became a place where he felt respected, understood, and encouraged to keep moving forward. His reflections highlight the importance of accessible wellbeing support and the difference a safe and supportive environment can make to someone rebuilding their confidence and sense of purpose.
