Case Study : Interventions Alliance x Tribal IT Partnership
Interventions Alliance supports vulnerable people across the UK, from those leaving prison to survivors of domestic abuse. To support their impact, they needed IT systems that weren’t just functional – but visibly trusted by government, funders, and communities.
Tribal has helped Interventions Alliance secure access to Criminal Justice Secure Mail (CJSM), achieve Cyber Essentials Plus certification, and roll out critical IT and security projects. The result: a stronger foundation of trust, smoother collaboration with partners, and confidence that their dispersed workforce can work safely and effectively.
✓ Trusted partner of the Ministry of Justice
✓ Improved compliance with Cyber Essentials Plus
✓ Robust security and resilient systems
✓ Connected workforce
✓ Responsive and fast resolution of IT issues
✓ Future-ready and scalable framework
About Interventions Alliance
Interventions Alliance works nationally to reduce harm, build safer communities, and help people create positive futures. With staff members spread across multiple regions, IT plays a critical role in keeping teams connected and ensuring sensitive data is handled securely. Michael Baker, Deputy CEO of Interventions Alliance, explains:
“As we grow our reach and impact, we need our IT to evolve too – supporting us to put our participants first and protect extremely sensitive data.”
The Challenge
When Interventions Alliance spun out from a parent company in 2025, they reviewed their IT systems and immediately began work on:
- Access to the CJSM secure email network to be recognised as a trusted partner by MoJ and local authorities
- Cyber Essentials Plus accreditation to enable the organisation to expand its reach with new commissioners
- IT infrastructure that could keep their dispersed workforce connected
- Reliable day-to-day IT support that was responsive and sector-aware
“These initiatives strengthen confidence in our organisation. For example, being part of the CJSM network says to other organisations delivering public services that our infrastructure is trusted. And if an organisation can be trusted with data, it can be trusted to deliver.”
— Michael Baker, Deputy CEO, Interventions Alliance
The Solution
Since May 2025, Tribal has delivered multiple services for Interventions Alliance, including:
- Access to CJSM network – SMTP implementation including advising, configuring, and onboarding Interventions Alliance into the secure network.
- VPN Solution – ensuring encrypted, remote access for a dispersed workforce.
- Cyber Essentials Plus Certification – achieved.
- DLP Labelling Rollout – safeguarding sensitive information across 200+ staff.
- Daily Security Monitoring – validation, configuration, and risk checks.
- Vulnerability Management – identification and remediation.
- Website Entra SMTP Integration – secure, compliant email from their website.
Tribal’s Lead Technical Architect, Lee Dudmish, and the wider Tribal infrastructure team, worked closely with Interventions Alliance to guide, implement, and deliver critical projects. Michael reflects on the importance of this foundation:
“We have a dispersed workforce. Not everyone works from delivery sites or offices the whole time, so our IT keeps our teams together. That’s how we bridge distances between colleagues so that they’re connected to each other. It’s the glue for our organisation.”
— Michael Baker, Deputy CEO, Interventions Alliance
The partnership between Interventions Alliance and Tribal IT has been expansive, including:
✓ Fast, responsive service desk support
✓ Helping Interventions Alliance remain competitive in MoJ procurement through strategic guidance to achieve Cyber Essentials Plus compliance and accreditation
✓ Best-practice security configurations
“Tribal is responsive. They understand our needs and they understand our sector. That sector awareness is as important than anything else, because it’s not just about the nuts and bolts of an IT service – it’s about trust. It’s about being part of a wider system where it is important for organisations and communities to be able to exchange information and data with confidence. To be able to maintain that trust with our IT systems is really critical.”
— Michael Baker, Deputy CEO, Interventions Alliance
