Seetec to support people in prison with careers information, advice and guidance

Seetec, an employee-owned partner to businesses and governments, has been appointed by His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) to deliver Careers Information, Advice and Guidance (CIAG) for the adult prison estate across the south of England.

The service will help provide vital support to people in all prisons across Avon, Dorset, Devon, Cornwall, Kent, Surrey, Sussex, Hampshire and Thames Valley. The service aims to reduce reoffending by ensuring that all Prisoners can gain skills and confidence to enable them to leave custody positively, ready to gain sustainable employment and lead purposeful lives within their communities.

Data from the Ministry of Justice shows that offenders who found employment in the first 12 months after release from prison were less likely to re-offend than those who did not.

Seetec’s Director of Resettlement, Rehabilitation and Careers Services, Rupert Nesbitt-Day, said: “We are delighted to have presented a compelling offer to the commissioners of this important CIAG work.

“When executed to the high standards that Seetec takes such pride in, quality careers work in prison empowers and equips people with the skills, opportunities and hope needed to sustain integrated and fulfilling lives amongst their communities upon leaving custody.

“At Seetec, we are proud of the reputation we are building as an organisation that understands the impact for an individual. In this case by providing an opportunity and hope to those in and leaving prison, which in turn will have a ripple effect for our communities and society as a whole.”

Now mobilising at pace, we are preparing to begin service delivery from April 2025, for a minimum four-year term.

Black History Month Podcast 2024

Seetec celebrated Black History Month with an inspiring podcast hosted by Shay, Marketing and Communications Coordinator, who welcomed other employees to discuss race, inclusion, and Seetec’s goals for building a more diverse workplace.

The theme for Black History Month 2024 is ‘Reclaiming Narratives’ and after speaking to other colleagues, Shay came up with the idea of making the podcast with a small group of colleagues.

Shay’s guests included Elaine, Integration Manager for the London area; David, one of Seetec’s Employment Advisers from Bristol; with input from Agery, a Senior HR Consultant for Seetec.

Diversity at all levels

The podcast highlighted Seetec’s commitment to fostering open conversations about race, bringing visibility to areas where more inclusivity is needed, and celebrating progress made so far.

A whole host of topics were discussed, questions surrounding whether diversity starts from leadership, or at what point does bias start and how best to combat it.

The group also discussed the sources of racial bias and the impact it has on communities.

Agery shared a personal story involving her child’s recent experience with racial name-calling at school, emphasising the importance of addressing these biases early on.

Honest language

The topics enable an insight into some of the issues experienced on a regular basis, and how we can introduce measure to improve diversity and understanding. David explains how we should adopt honest language, and how only from this can we educate people on the topic.

This years race riots also sparked conversation, focusing on how Seetec promotes diversity and ensures inclusivity.

Seetec’s Black History Month podcase stands as a milestone in its ongoing journey to promote diversity, inclusion, and a culture where all employees feel respected and valued.
