Seetec celebrated Black History Month with an inspiring podcast hosted by Shay, Marketing and Communications Coordinator, who welcomed other employees to discuss race, inclusion, and Seetec’s goals for building a more diverse workplace.
The theme for Black History Month 2024 is ‘Reclaiming Narratives’ and after speaking to other colleagues, Shay came up with the idea of making the podcast with a small group of colleagues.
Shay’s guests included Elaine, Integration Manager for the London area; David, one of Seetec’s Employment Advisers from Bristol; with input from Agery, a Senior HR Consultant for Seetec.
Diversity at all levels
The podcast highlighted Seetec’s commitment to fostering open conversations about race, bringing visibility to areas where more inclusivity is needed, and celebrating progress made so far.
A whole host of topics were discussed, questions surrounding whether diversity starts from leadership, or at what point does bias start and how best to combat it.
The group also discussed the sources of racial bias and the impact it has on communities.
Agery shared a personal story involving her child’s recent experience with racial name-calling at school, emphasising the importance of addressing these biases early on.
Honest language
The topics enable an insight into some of the issues experienced on a regular basis, and how we can introduce measure to improve diversity and understanding. David explains how we should adopt honest language, and how only from this can we educate people on the topic.
This years race riots also sparked conversation, focusing on how Seetec promotes diversity and ensures inclusivity.
Seetec’s Black History Month podcase stands as a milestone in its ongoing journey to promote diversity, inclusion, and a culture where all employees feel respected and valued.
